Develop a new mascot and branding system for North Kansas City School District new Greenway Elementary.

CONCEPT︎


Built beside a lake, Greenway Elementary offers students opportunities to appreciate and connect with nature within their classes. To honor this, the school uses "Ollie the Otter," to represent their school pride. Ollie’s design is based on the river otters native to the area in Missouri.

Design a ground-up LEED certified Elementary School that provides a space for students and community members to come together and support one another.



CONCEPT︎


Inspired by the phrase "Growing Future Leaders", Pawnee Elementary embraces nature, seamlessly blending natural elements in the interior spaces. Immersive graphics engage students with interactive displays, inviting them to explore the wonders of the natural world firsthand. Students cultivate not only academic growth but also environmental stewardship, shaping future leaders who are connected to and inspired by the world around them.






DECODER WHEEL



Outside the media center, you'll find an interactive decoder wheel. This device enables students to decipher hidden messages, adding an element of fun to their learning experience.





PARADISE PARK EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTER

BRIEF ︎


Transform an old childrens amusement park into an Early Childhood Center. The center offers an engaging environment fostering curiosity and creativity for young learners and educators.


CONCEPT︎


Paradise Park draws inspiration from the children's book "Going on a Bear Hunt," offering young learners spaces to explore and engage with their surroundings. Featuring themed open play spaces representing various geographic environments like the beach, prairie, and mountaintops, the center provides immersive experiences that ignite curiosity and foster imaginative play.





Sensory Coridor



At the heart of the building lies the "Sensory Corridor," where students can engage in various activities. This space offers opportunities for writing on marker boards, climbing on flexible furniture, and interacting with animals, providing a dynamic and stimulating environment for learning and exploration.

Design a ground-up LEED certified Elementary School that provides a space for students and community members to come together and support one another.



CONCEPT︎

To tell the story of individuals come together to form a community, the interior design and graphics use simple shapes to form pattern and murals that create synergy. These shapes are inspired by the children’s toy of tanagrams.










Telling a Story

To help tell the history of the community, the mural illustrates the Historic Strang Line. This unqiue commuter train ran through the heart of this community to connect Kansas City.




CLASSROOM IDENTIFIES

Located at the entrance to each classroom is a panel featuring a unique illustration that ties into a theme associated with that grade level. For example, 1st grade panels depict various types of animals, while 3rd grade panels showcase forms of transportation. This educational layer creates an interesting form of wayfinding.

Revive a forgotten typeface


CONCEPT ︎

Banter is a font rival from H.W. Calson & CO. a company whose typefaces were inspired by the Dutch Baroque types. They are originally modeled after popular fonts that were produced in metal. Banter is a san-serif display typeface filled with delicate details. With its sophisticated and frisky appeal, Banter makes for an intriguing typeface
